As I enter the office, I notice that the lobby is crammed with young graduates waiting to be interviewed for the prestigious internship. Most of them sport the corporate look – western attire in sober colours. As I stop at the coffee machine, a sudden hush falls over the room.
I look up and see a smart young lady coming out of the interview room. She is wearing a multi-colour Matka silk saree with bold stripes and blocks in blue, red and other bright hues. The saree has an interesting concept design with a partly pallu and striped pleats. Stunned silence follows her as she walks confidently past the other candidates – a picture of modernity blended with tradition.
The executive assistant comes out to announce that the position has been filled, and it’s easy to guess who has earned her stripes.
