As I walk through the Galleria at the Leela Palace, a shimmer of yellow catches my eye. I stop to look through the window display and am spell bound by a regal young lady in a beautifully draped mustard yellow and pink Kanchipuram silk saree. The onion pink border and pallu have elaborate floral cut work and a sprinkle of sequins, which blends perfectly with the pink kanchi blouse with cut work sleeves, to create a picture of understated elegance.
She turns, and I look away to avoid being caught staring, but as she walks past me, I can’t resist saying, “What a beautiful saree!” Unperturbed, she smiles warmly and says, “Thank you. It’s from a friend’s boutique in Indira Nagar. I think I might have a card in my purse.”
She hands it over and walks away, a vision of grace and beauty befitting a queen. I’m convinced that she is one.
