My eyes were drawn to the beautiful bride, dressed in traditional Indian finery. Standing beside her was the doting father. I could see he was feeling emotional, thinking about bidding farewell to his precious little girl on her most special day, but smiling through it all, as guests stepped up to congratulate her. A graceful hand reached up and held his shoulder comfortingly. It belonged to a stunning young lady who resembled the bride – probably her sister.
The gorgeous emerald green Kanchipuram silk saree that she was wearing had an air of understated elegance, which made me believe that she had chosen it with great care so that she would not outshine the bride, her sister.
I wasn’t sure if she had succeeded as I couldn’t take my eyes off the exquisite cut work embroidery and colorful tissue applique work that gave the saree a golden sheen, giving her an angelic aura. Indeed, she looked like a rare and precious gem shining under the spotlight.
As I forced my eyes away before I was caught staring, I scanned the crowd and realized that I was not alone in my thoughts. Many admiring eyes were glancing in her direction. Whether or not she had intended it, she looked mesmerizing in the glorious saree she was wearing.
